Issue Position: Spending and Taxes

Issue Position

It's time to get our books in order.

We're now over $17,000,000,000,000 in debt -- a number that exceeds our Gross Domestic Product. For the first time in history, the federal government's bond ratings have been downgraded. Year after year, the Treasury Department has been telling us our fiscal path is "unsustainable"--and yet, Congress continues to spend and spend. We the people have had enough. We can't continue hiking the debt ceiling forever. It's long since time to balance the budget--and keep it balanced, and to reduce our government spending to a much smaller percentage of the GNP. When government takes too much money out of the productive, private economy and re-directs it into the non-productive political economy, trade, innovation, specialization, jobs and the resulting widespread wealth creation are all diminished.

Congress needs to abandon the practice of using the federal budget and the tax code to pick winners and losers in the marketplace, rewarding friends and punishing enemies. We need to abolish the IRS and replace our current tax code with a fairer, flatter tax code that promotes growth and reduces barriers to economic prosperity for small business. We must set the stage for economic liberty for all!
