Traffic and Gridlock cost Falls Church and Fairfax residents thousands of dollars every year in wasted gas, lost time, day-care late fees, and countless other ways. As legislative chair of the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce, I authored a position in support of a compromised version of the Governor's transportation funding package that will help raise hundreds of millions of dollars for road and transit infrastructure improvements in Northern Virginia for years to come. Although I would have supported a much more straightforward approach, such as a small increase in the Gasoline Tax -- or converting our current gas tax from a per-gallon to a percentage of purchase tax to keep pace with inflation and keep us from losing to revenue as fuel economy improves -- I felt the opportunity to take a Republican legislature up on its offer to increase revenues for transportation shouldn't be passed up lightly.

As a member of the General Assembly I will work tirelessly to ensure that more of the revenue generated in Falls Church and Fairfax returns to Falls Church and Fairfax as funds for transportation. Too much money is diverted on Roads to Nowhere in rural parts of the state where there is no traffic, while we endure gridlock on Leesburg Pike, Lee Highway and Interstate 66 every evening from 3 in the afternoon until 8 at night.
