Democrats have a long and proud history of fighting for voting rights that continues to this day. One of the most important rights of American citizens is the right to vote--the right to have a say in who our leaders are and how our government should work.

Our party's platform promises to fully protect and enforce the fundamental constitutional voting rights of every American, and we believe that "voting rights are fundamental rights because they are protective of all other rights."

President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law in 1965. Landmark legislation, the Voting Rights Act, ushered in new hope, not only for African Americans but also for every citizen's confidence in free and fair elections.
Many voters still face difficulties at the polls, from registering to casting a ballot to having their votes counted.

The Mississippi attempt to pass a Voter Identification law is both sickening and humiliating. Our state makes claims that the law will eliminate voter fraud. I am in opposition to the voter identification law, until Governor Bryant can prove that Mississippi has a voter fraud problem that needs to be brought to the forefront, I will remain in opposition of the current voter identification law. This law was designed to make it harder for people, especially minorities, to vote and unfairness and inequality is something that I will not support.
