Cassidy Statement on Common Core

Statement

Date: Sept. 30, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released the following statement on Common Core:

"It's clear that when it comes to our children's education, parents and teachers, not Washington, know what is best. The administration has circumvented Congress to advance its education agenda by coercing states into adopting Common Core Standards in exchange for waivers and grant money. As a strict Constitutionalist, I believe states should decide what education policies best serve their students. I strongly oppose the federal government forcing Common Core on Louisiana and have voted for legislation that would prohibit the Secretary of Education from forcing Louisiana to adopt Common Core."
