America is a nation of immigrants, and America needs a 21st century immigration system. Our economy is stronger -- and our country is stronger -- when new immigrants are welcomed to America and become valued members of our communities.

Something is wrong in Washington when extreme Republicans want to deport a Massachusetts student who earns good grades and has dreams of going to college, getting a good job and starting a family. That student may have moved here as an eight month old baby and knows no other home than America. But some in Washington want to turn those dreams into a nightmare because the student's parents didn't have immigration papers.

Katherine supports comprehensive immigration reform that makes our borders more secure, cracks down on the shipment of illicit drugs and goes after employers who hire undocumented immigrants, but also includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and makes legal immigration easier to navigate. It's the fair thing to do, and it's also the best thing to do for our economy.
