BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT
At the events, there were a lot of great questions from everyone, and I appreciated hearing your concerns and thoughts on the direction of our country. These events are where I get my marching orders for the work I'm doing in Washington on behalf of the 4th District.
For those not able to attend an event yet, I would like to address three of the more frequent topics that I am being asked about at events.
Our Nation's $17 trillion debt
As every Hoosier knows, we can't keep spending money we don't have. As a member of the Budget Committee, I will keep working with my fellow committee members to propose responsible solutions for a better future.
Immigration
A lot of Hoosiers have told me they are concerned with immigration reform proposals that have been backed by the President and passed in the Senate. I share their concerns and oppose that legislation. Any immigration reform must focus on border security first.
Obamacare
ObamaCare is a train wreck. Costs are skyrocketing and Americans are finding out they cannot keep their doctors or their health care plans. At the same time, businesses are scaling back hiring and the Obama Administration is handing out waivers to try to keep ObamaCare on track. I have voted to repeal it and have co-authored legislation to defund it.
At one of of the events, an attendee expressed that they wanted Washington to be more civil, and also take care of everyone's needs. In my response, I listed several reading materials that better express why government shouldn't and can't be everything to everyone. Many of you asked me to include that list here. Enjoy
