Dear Friend,
It has been another busy week at home. Over the past week I have been in Parkersburg, Charleston, Huntington, Buffalo, Evans, Weston, and Elkins.
Home in West Virginia
Being home in West Virginia gives me the opportunity to hear from you. I enjoyed speaking at the Parkersburg Rotary, touring businesses like the Toyota Manufacturing Plant and the Painter's Union Training Center, and attending a bridge dedication. While I visited the Painter's Union, I spoke to WBOY.
No ObamaCare Subsidies for Congress Act
I will introduce the No ObamaCare Subsidies for Congress Act of 2013 after the August district work period. The Office of Personnel Management recently announced that it will provide a roughly 75 percent subsidy to Members of Congress for the purchase of a health insurance policy on the exchange.
I will not accept any health care subsidy made available to me and my legislation would end this special treatment for Members of Congress. Under my bill, Members of Congress would be treated like any other American who purchases an individual health insurance policy from the exchange. You can read more about it here. I went on Fox & Friends last week to talk about the bill.
Weekly Republican Address
It was an honor to give the nationwide weekly Republican address. I called on President Obama to back a bipartisan, House-passed measure that protects all Americans from his health care law - giving individuals and families the same relief that businesses have received.
It is an honor to serve you.
Sincerely,
Shelley Moore Capito
Member of Congress
