Labrador Votes for REINS Act

Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-ID) continued his push for pro-growth policies and government accountability today by voting for the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act today. This bipartisan bill would require that any regulation whose effect on the economy would exceed $100 million annually would require Congressional approval in order to become law.

"One of the biggest reasons we are suffering from one of the slowest economic recoveries in history is the Administration's never-ending onslaught of rules and regulations," said Rep. Labrador. "Whether it's ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank, or the EPA's constant meddling, the uncertainty created by all these regulations is keeping unemployment artificially high and delaying our recovery. Furthermore, Congress owes it to the American people to hold an up-or-down vote on regulations that will have a significant impact on our economy, instead of passing the buck to the bureaucracy and complaining about it later. We have a constitutional responsibility to hold the bureaucracy accountable, and that's exactly what this bill does."

According to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the total cost of complying with federal regulations reached $1.8 trillion in 2012 (or about $14,000 per family). Last year, 57 regulations were implemented with an annual economic cost of more than $100 million each.
