Blog: 69th Anniversary of D-Day

Statement

Date: June 6, 2013

Today, June 6th, marks the 69th anniversary of the United States invasion of Normandy, otherwise known as D-Day. On this day, the Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy and parachuted behind enemy lines--beginning their march across Europe to defeat Hitler. One of the units that jumped that morning into Normandy was the 506th Infantry Regiment. I was honored to walk in their footsteps as a platoon leader with the 506th in Baghdad. The world will forever be indebted to the brave soldiers who fought that day, for they exhibited the highest amount of courage.

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory! --General Dwight D. Eisenhower
