Daines Statement on Rand Paul Filibuster

Statement

Date: March 7, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Daines today released the following statement after Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) announced that Attorney General Eric Holder has definitively stated that the President does not have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil:

"This announcement is a strong affirmation of the rights protected to the American people through our Constitution, and I am relieved by the clear and unambiguous language provided by Attorney General Holder to Senator Rand Paul today," Daines stated. "I am proud to have been present on the floor of the U.S. Senate during last night's critical discussion of the importance of protecting Americans' civil liberties and our rights of due process."

Daines was among a dozen House members present on the U.S. Senate floor last night to support Senator Rand Paul's 13-hour filibuster, regarding President Obama's nomination of John Brennan to be CIA director and concerns over the legality and constitutionality of the U.S. government using lethal force, including drone strikes, on Americans on U.S. territory.
