Statement on 40th Anniversary of Roe V. Wade

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement on the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision:

"Roe v. Wade guaranteed women the right to make a fundamental decision about their health and made abortion a safe and legal practice. The health of millions of women has been protected thanks to this decision.

I believe--and have always believed--that childbearing decisions are appropriately made by women, their families and their physicians--not politicians. I will continue to support that right to privacy when making the most personal medical decisions."
