DENVER, CO - U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), a member of the Health Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding the resignation of U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Secretary Tommy Thompson:

"Over the past four years, I have been fortunate to work closely with Secretary Thompson on a number of critical health care issues. Whether it was stem cell research, diabetes, or expanding health care coverage, he has always been extremely knowledgeable and willing to work in a bipartisan manner to try to develop the best policies for the American public. Sec. Thompson has served this nation very well. I hope President Bush will name a successor who is equally adept at dealing with the critical health issues facing our nation."
