Issue Position: Constituent Advocacy

Issue Position

Date: Oct. 10, 2012

Even in the midst of big policy debates, Karen is always mindful that her primary job is to advocate for her constituents. The legislation of which she is most proud is created in response to the needs of people she meets in the community.

Karen introduced Jenny's Law in memory of a young mother from Ashland. Karen worked with Jenny's husband to take on the big life insurance industry, and they were successful. By changing the law to make it harder for companies to deny claims, she helped families throughout the Commonwealth. Karen continue to fight for her bills, created from real stories, that will allow tax credits for organ donors, prevent so-called "drive-through" mastectomies, and, change the next-of-kin laws to assist victims' families.

Changing the law is not easy, nor should it be. But Karen is humbled and grateful when families come to her to help fight inequity and injustice.
