Issue Position: Safe Sanctuary

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

- Crime is of major concern when we speak about having a safe sanctuary. Neighborhood organization need to be assured that they have an ear on a state level when it comes to addressing sentencing and crime reduction.
- There are pedestrian concerns in the 58th District, particularly around the issue of sidewalks and safety. I would work to ensure that these concerns would be addressed so that there can be a good balance between housing growth and pedestrian safety.
-Youth Development naturally helps reduce crime and safety issues. Programs to encourage activities for young men and women are vital to positive development. I would work to encourage collaboration between the various organizations at our disposal to provide a multifaceted approach to youth development.
- Encourage collaboration between governmental and community organizations to assist those trying to re-enter society after leaving either juvenile justice centers or jail.
