Plummer Announces Support for Farm Bill Discharge Petition

Jason Plummer, Republican nominee for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, announced his support for the discharge petition that would bring a vote on the Farm Bill to the House floor.

The current Farm bill is set to expire on September 30, and without new legislation, our nation's farmers will be forced to work without the long-term security they require.

"It's unacceptable that we are less than three weeks away from the Farm Bill's expiration and no extension has been passed," Plummer said. "Our farmers are not looking for a bailout. They need long-term security, especially for seasons like this summer when their crops did not produce."

As of September 13, 39 House members had signed the discharge petition. A majority of House members would have to sign the petition in order for the bill to reach the floor for consideration. The proposed Farm Bill would reduce the deficit by $23 billion and help protect farmers and small business owners across the country.

"Our farmers need a Farm bill, and they need one now," Plummer added. "Our economy depends on the agriculture industry, and we need this bill passed so our farmers can continue to work with long-term certainty. In Congress, I would join the bipartisan effort to ensure that the Farm Bill reaches the House floor and is passed."
