Well, I have a lot of personal experience with public transportation. I've been on my own since I was 18 years old, and so I took the bus and I took the T absolutely everywhere. I know how much it means to people to have reliable public transportation. In fact, I also know as someone who now can afford a car, that there are times when I'd love to take public transportation but I can't because the trains just don't run very often. I completely oppose cuts in service. We should be building our public transportation system, not shutting it down. And furthermore, some of the rate hikes that have been imposed would be borne most heavily by seniors, the last group that we should be asking to pay for this. Some of the proposed fare increases are as much as 175% -- it's wrong and we need to do better.
