Issue Position

Mark Pocan supports fairness and equality for all. As an openly gay legislator, he has fought for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) Wisconsinites, as well as women and members of all racial, ethnic, and religious communities. If elected, Mark will continue to work tirelessly to end discrimination and make sure all Americans are afforded the equal rights they deserve.

Mark's Accomplishments:

Opposed voter ID laws.

Opposed efforts to overturn Affirmative Action at UW-Madison.

Created domestic partner registry that helped provide 43 legal protections for same-sex couples afforded to opposite-sex couples.

Strongly advocated for increased funding for HIV/AIDS.

Enacted state & university health care benefits for same-sex partners.

Mark's To-Do List:

Support intervention by the Department of Justice to oppose voter ID laws and support other federal efforts to guarantee every American's right to vote.

Pass the Respect for Marriage Act, which will repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Support strong implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure that public facilities are accessible to all.

Pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which protects employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity
Support local, national and global funding to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS
Support LGBTQ youth by passing the Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA) and the Safe School Improvement Act (SSIA).
