Issue Position

Mark Pocan has always supported investing in our future by supporting the preservation of our environment. Early on he received the endorsement of Clean Wisconsin, the only environmental group to endorse in this race, because of his strong record protecting our natural resources. In Congress, he plans to forcefully support alternative energy and renewable resources.

Mark's Accomplishments:

Secured $2.6 million in funding for green job training grant.

Promoted recycling by supporting grants for local governments and authored the Recycling Fund Restoration Act.

Banned fertilizer containing phosphorus.

Increased landfill use tipping fees.

Only vote to expand zebra mussel enforcement statewide.

Re-authorized the Stewardship Fund protecting lands and local parks.

Increased state share of Aquatic Invasive Species Grant program.

Mark's To-Do List:

End subsidies and tax breaks for oil companies and put that money towards a real investment in alternative energy.

Support working with international bodies to sustain efforts at combatting global climate change.

Support regulation of polluting industries and oppose efforts to tie the hands of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Reduce carbon emissions through increased fuel efficiency standards.

Increase federal transportation funds for rail & bus systems.

Support research and investment in solar and wind power, and invest in green job training.

Build support for restoration of the Clean Water Act and stop the Supreme Court from excluding more and more waterways from protection.

Oppose offshore drilling as well as other unsustainable projects that harm our environment and sustain non-renewable resources.

Support the use of bio-fuels.
