When our founders wrote the U.S. Constitution, they did not envision the Federal Government playing a heavy handed role in the education of America's children. Over the past fifty years, major federal intervention into local schools has expanded under the guise of improving education, however it has failed to improve academic achievement.
Dr. Gosar knows our education system must be refocused at the state and local level. He has been a leader in Congress advocating to get the federal government out of the way of the teachers and administrators on the ground. He is a cosponsor of the Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success Act or A-PLUS Act (H.R. 2514) which would allow states to opt out of the harmful unfunded federal education mandate known as No Child Left Behind and would empower state and local officials to enact reforms that will be effective for their unique situations.
Dr. Gosar supports school choice policies that enable parents to decide where their children will be educated. For example, Arizona has a strong pro-charter school culture which currently includes one fourth of Arizona's public school children. He voted for the Empowering Parents Through Quality Charter Schools Act (H.R. 2218), legislation that removes some of the federal barriers that currently exist to setting up a charter school.
America's children deserve the best education possible. Dr. Gosar is committed to implementing education reform that gets the federal government out of our schools and makes the system more accountable directly to parents.
