Bringing Home Money for Local Schools
Rep. Crespo fought for a budget that will benefit the students of our area by securing more than $8.35 million in new state funding for local schools. This money will go into our local classrooms to provide our children with the education and opportunities they deserve. Crespo knows education is the key to a bright start for our children and he continues to make education funding a top priority. Signed into law.
Helping Local Residents Access Higher Education
To expand educational opportunities for local residents and to meet our community's public safety needs, Crespo introduced House Bill 1434 which would enable local students to study for a bachelor's degree in public safety administration, homeland security and technology management at Harper College. Crespo's measure would provide opportunity and support for non-traditional students such as single mothers, working men and women and those who are not able to travel significant distances to obtain a college education. Passed House.
Fully Funding Education
In response to concerns brought up by local parents and educators, Rep. Crespo took action to restore special education funding for local schools by passing legislation that would establish a permanent hold harmless provision for the Special Education Extraordinary Services grant line so that no school district will ever receive less funds for this grant line than received in Fiscal Year 2007. This measure will ensure that children with special needs receive the services and education they deserve. House Bill 4148, passed House.
