"There's a reason Texas isn't in the same trouble California is in. We're a state that values businesses, free enterprise and respects hard work. I intend to keep it that way." -Lois
*With a background in economic development, Lois works to expand job opportunities. She's the Chair of Budget and Oversight for the House Economic Development Committee, where she's passed popular proposals like HB 2928 in 2005, which expands the ways small communities can recruit and retain employers.
*She received the 2009 Annual Silver Spur Award from the statewide Texas Travel Industry Association for her efforts to promote Texas tourism and tout the story of Texas. Lois serves as the Chair of the Tourism Caucus, which is a bipartisan group of lawmakers who see tourism not only as a way to promote Texas to the rest of the world, but as a strong economic driver for our state.
*She's also a past President and CEO of the Washington County Chamber and the Brenham Economic Development Corporation, and a former board member of the Texas Economic Development Council as well as the Brazos Valley Workforce Commission.
*As a small business owner, Lois supports policies that will protect our state's business climate. She's helped pass legislation to revise our state's worker's compensation system and she has supported the 2003 tort reforms that curb abusive lawsuits. For these and other pro-business efforts, the Texas Association of Business has given her their Fighter for Free Enterprise Award several times.
*To protect Texans from fraudulent business scams, she authored legislation in coordination with the Texas Attorney General, strengthening the state's Deceptive Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act in 2003.
