Martin has been endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare for one simple reason: because he will always fight any effort to privatize these crucial programs, and will always stand on the side of America's seniors when Social Security and Medicare are at risk. Martin believes that we must keep the promises we've made to our nation's seniors -- and he knows that generations of seniors have been able to live independently and with dignity because of the safety net provided by Social Security and Medicare.
That's why Martin has consistently fought to protect the benefits our seniors have earned from constant attacks by Republicans in Washington, who would rather give tax breaks to the super-rich and big corporations than keep this country's promises to our parents and grandparents. He knows that we can and must reduce our deficit -- but will never agree to doing so on the backs of New Mexico seniors. He believes that how we look after seniors in our society is a reflection of who we are and what we stand for as a nation.
Martin has fought efforts to privatize Medicare, which would leave seniors to fend for themselves against big insurance companies. And he voted against H.J.Res.2, which would have slashed Social Security by almost 20 percent by the year 2021.
Martin will take that fight to the Senate and ensure that the benefits New Mexico seniors have worked their entire lives to earn are protected now and for future generations.
"National Committee members and supporters want you to continue protecting Social Security and Medicare--the twin pillars necessary to a good quality of life for Americans of all ages-- in the United States Senate."
