Letter to Constituents

Letter

Dear Friends and Neighbors

I hope you all had a fantastic Mother's Day with your loved ones this past Sunday. I myself have had a busy week in Washington, DC as well as in our district. Friday, May 11th was especially rewarding because I hosted my annual senior briefing where I spent the day with senior citizens from our community.

District Highlights

Friday, May 11th was my annual 37th District Senior Briefing. With over 1,300 seniors in attendance, it was a great opportunity for me to learn from them, one-on-one, what their concerns are and where I can help them the most.

This week, I announced that California State University, Dominguez Hills was awarded two Upward Bound Program grants to continue its successful efforts in providing high level of academic resources to students who seek rigorous and challenging higher level education.
Long Beach Community College was also awarded an Upward Bound Program grant to continue providing students with successful precollege performance and ultimately success in their higher education pursuits.
Tuesday, March 15th, fallen Signal Hill Police Officer Giniewicz, was honored at a memorial service held on the West Front of the Capitol dedicated to law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty over the past year. My condolences go out to Officer Giniewicz's family as his name is added to the Memorial Wall at the National Peace Officer's Memorial in Washington, D.C.
In honor of National Foster Care Month, I want to take the time to salute Cynthia Berry, a dedicated and loving foster care mother from Long Beach who continuously opens her heart and home to children who have been removed from their homes.

Significant Events This Week

In honor of Mother's Day, I released a statement thanking our nation's mothers, grandmothers, and aunts, as well as all the women who mentor and nurture future generations by recommitting myself to the effort to preserve Medicare and to protect their health and well being.
May marks Jewish American Heritage Month and I am proud to recognize all the wonderful contributions the Jewish community has made throughout our nation's history.
On May 16th, I spoke at a bipartisan press conference along with my colleagues in support of the expedited withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

As always, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve you and California's 37th District. I commit to continue the work of meeting your needs and improving the lives of all of our families.

My warmest regards to you and your family,

Laura Richardson
Member of Congress (CA-37)
