Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito opposed the Healthcare Reform Act because of its massive cost and expanded government control. Instead, she supports common sense reforms like ending frivolous lawsuits, eliminating the ban on pre-existing conditions, allowing health insurance companies to compete across state lines and promoting wellness.
Capito supported the creation of Health Savings Accounts that allows individuals to set money aside tax free to help pay for their health care needs. She has also helped draft and pass the legislation that created the Medicare Part D program that provides seniors and disabled people access to prescription drug coverage. As a member of the state legislature, Capito helped to establish the Children's Health Insurance Program in West Virginia that provides more than 24,000 children with access to quality health care.
