Issue Position: Spending/Debt Ceiling

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

I believe all wealth in this country is created in the private sector. The federal government creates no wealth, nor can Congress borrow its way out of debt. We must elect people to Congress who have read the Constitution, believe what it states, and will abide by it without compromise or equivocation.
Article I Section 8 of the Constitution places with the Congress the ability to borrow money. For too long, Congress has abrogated this responsibility to the President. I oppose borrowed spending and I understand that with a vote of 218 members of the House of Representatives, we won't spend borrowed money. I will fight to create a coalition in the House of 217 other like-minded members who, with me, will vote against borrowed spending. I will not delegate my authority under the Constitution to the President as some congressmen recently suggested during the debt ceiling debate. The issue is not about who takes the blame; rather, it's about who will fulfill their constitutional responsibility.
Our government currently borrows 42% of every dollar it spends. Much of that money is borrowed from other countries, China the most. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:7 that the rich rule over the poor and the debtor is slave to the lender. So, if the United States is the debtor and China is the lender, this makes China our master; us their slave. This is a Biblical truth and our country must take heed. Stop borrowing now. Cut our dependence on China. Let us be slave to no other nation.
Congress must live below its means, not above it. Not only will this balance the budget, it will allow us to actually save money.
