"If we want to build the best products in Connecticut, we are going to need the best educated workforce. That's why I believe our top long-term job creation strategy is to improve our public schools. I am a proud product of public education and my children attend the same high school that I attended. We must give our teachers the resources they need to ensure that our children receive a quality education" -Susan Bysiewicz

Susan's Education Plan

Promote parent, family and community involvement: Schools must be held accountable for their performance, but the success of our schools ultimately depends on parents being informed about, and engaged in, their children's education. As senator, Susan will work with PTAs, local businesses and civic organizations to promote parental involvement and develop solutions--such as school-to-work programs and internships--to help schools, students and families thrive.

Expand federal funding and eligibility for Head Start: Head Start is a quality program that gives our children the foundation they need to succeed. Susan supports expanding eligibility for the program, and giving more children a chance for a great start to a quality education.

Making college more affordable: Susan knows that a college education can be critical to a young person's long-term economic future. She will work to increase access to grants, such as Pell Grants, and affordable college loans for students trying to afford the dream of a higher education. Susan believes that our students should be able to graduate with the training needed to compete in today's economy, without being saddled with exorbitant levels of debt.
