Issue Position: Energy Independence

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

"Smart energy policy is the key to creating jobs in Connecticut. We can no longer deny basic facts: energy needs will grow; dependence on foreign oil threatens our national and economic security; and the country that leads in clean, renewable energy will be the country that leads the global economy. That country must be America." -Susan Bysiewicz

Susan's Plan To Support Independent Energy

Reduce our dependence on foreign oil: Susan will work to ensure the U.S. is no longer beholden to oil-producing, anti-democratic regimes in the Middle East. That means boosting domestic energy production, promoting development of the next generation of fuel-efficient vehicles, and funding research of new energy sources.

Support clean-energy industries and jobs: Rather than rewarding multinational oil and gas companies with tax breaks and subsidies, Susan will fight to expand and create smart incentives for businesses to invest in homegrown clean energy industries and jobs--right here in Connecticut.

Cut pollution and strengthen EPA authority: Susan will fight against initiatives to eliminate and weaken the EPA. She believes that we must make sure the Environmental Protection Agency has the resources and tools for enforcement to protect our air and water.

Harness Connecticut's homegrown energy jobs: Connecticut is uniquely positioned to benefit from a clean energy economy. Connecticut is the fuel cell capital of the world, and increasing production of additional fuel cells will support our local industry and help develop clean-energy jobs. Susan will also support and help expand the innovative companies that are harnessing solar, wind, and biofuels.
