Q: What further steps should the federal government take to address the problem of illegal immigration?
A: Our broken immigration system hurts our economy, our communities, and our families. As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I was proud to support legislation to effectively stem the tide of illegal immigrants passing into the country, and to set the foundation for national and comprehensive immigration reform. The failure of the Federal government to provide much needed reforms has allowed the development of state laws, some of them very controversial. Unity on the policy of immigration is imperative in the challenge to create a system that promotes security, fairness and economic health.
