Issue Position

I believe all our students, from pre-kindergarten to the post-graduate university level, deserve every opportunity to advance and prosper. Indeed, our economy's long term growth depends on a well educated, innovative workforce. I am passionate about closing the achievement gap in our nation's schools and committed to providing teachers with the tools they need to do their jobs, especially lower class sizes. As a member of the House Science and Technology Committee, I am well positioned to advance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education, and I am a proud supporter of the America COMPETES Act. I am proud to work with our Congressional neighbor, Rep. George Miller, Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, to fight for quality public schools.

I am also proud to represent St. Mary's College, CSU East Bay Concord Campus, Las Positas College, Diablo Valley College, and Solano Community College in Congress. As a former University of California regent and California State University trustee, I believe there are few priorities more important than keeping college costs low to make sure that no qualified student is priced out of an education.
