Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) joined a bipartisan majority of colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in supporting H.R. 3630, the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act, legislation that seeks to extend the 2 percent payroll tax cut through the end of the year, as well as provide jobless benefits for the unemployed and preserve the reimbursement rate for doctors who serve Medicare patients. The legislation passed in the House on a 293-132 vote.

"The payroll tax relief package is a widely supported, bipartisan tax initiative that will ensure the continuation of vital tax cuts for thousands of hard working American families in Middle and Southwest Georgia," said Congressman Sanford Bishop. "Passage of this legislation ensures that taxes will not increase for 160 million working Americans and unemployment benefits will not be discontinued for displaced workers aggressively looking for new jobs. Additionally, this legislation makes certain that millions of seniors on Medicare will continue to have access to their doctors."
