Congressman Chris Murphy today voted to pass the House version of the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, a bill that will ban Members of Congress and their staffs from buying or selling securities, swaps, or commodity futures based on nonpublic information they obtain because of their work in Congress. Following the bill's 417-2 passage in the House, Murphy released the following statement:
"While the House version of this bill could have, and should have been much stronger, this is a step in the right direction," said Murphy. "Requiring elected officials to play by the same rules as all Americans should be a no-brainer for Congress. This shouldn't have taken as long as it did, but I'm happy to see this common sense bill move forward today."
