Issue Position: Term Limits

I believe firmly in term limits for all elected state officials. I also feel that the legislative leaders of the Illinois House and Illinois Senate should be subject to term limits on the length of time that they can serve as legislative leaders.

The history of our great country and state is based on citizen-legislators. The noble idea shown by so many of our Founding Fathers --- individuals who serve for a period of time giving elected public service and then return to the private sector to contribute to society as private citizens.

Because of current laws and regulations that favor incumbents, such as the drawing of legislative boundary lines and early primary dates, legislators become entrenched. That is not beneficial to the system.

New legislators bring new ideas and new blood to the government system overall. And new legislative leaders would bring different approaches and new energy to the legislative process.

Term limits work. They are in place in many other states. We ought to have them in Illinois, too.
