Issue Position

Our budget is broken. Years of financial mismanagement coupled with the downturn in the economy have left us on the brink of financial ruin. We must correct our budget problems and we must do so immediately.

When elected I will propose what I call a Prioritized Funding Bill. This bill would require the legislature and governor to prioritize every item the legislature spends money on, from the most important expenditure to the least important. Furthermore, the bill would require that the most important expenditures (education, employee pensions, past due bills), are funded fully and properly before spending on the least important expenditures. This is a common sense solution. We do this in our own lives and it is time for our government to do the same. This bill will keep our government from spending on pet and pork projects before funding the things that we all agree should be the priorities.
