We must ensure that Social Security and Medicare will always provide a safety net for our seniors so they can retire in dignity. This means maintaining a robust system of benefits and finding sustainable ways to fund them. The Republicans' plan to shift the burden of Medicare costs to seniors through vouchers is not an acceptable way to do this. By considering certain reforms such as, for instance, enabling Medicare to negotiate with drug providers and raising the cap on incomes paying into Social Security and Medicare, we can begin to put these systems on a sound footing for decades to come.
