Today, U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) released the following statement, welcoming home the 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry of the Kentucky Army National Guard:
"This weekend, I am honored to welcome home and wish a very Merry Christmas to our Kentucky National Guard "Mountain Warriors!"
Over the past several months, these brave men and women answered the call and honorably served in Iraq with steadfast resolve and fearless dedication; sacrificing time away from loved ones, putting careers on hold, and placing our nation's security first.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Mountain Warriors and their families for their service and sacrifice made in protecting our country and upholding the highest ideals and traditions of America. It is because of you that we can enjoy the privilege of living and working in a free society.
So, welcome home Mountain Warriors. I wish each of you a joyful holiday season and a blessed time with your families and friends. You are true heroes."
The soldiers returning to Somerset, Middlesboro, and London were deployed to Iraq as part of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade's Task Force Legion. The soldiers played a key role in enacting the withdrawal of troops in Iraq, conducting security force, base defense operations and convoy security operations throughout the United States Forces-Iraq area of responsibility.
