With Suzanne Bonamici, Oregonians Win

Press Release

Date: Nov. 27, 2011
Location: Beaverton, OR
Issues: Elections

Suzanne Bonamici tonight demonstrated that she is the only candidate in the special election for Oregon's First Congressional District who Oregonians can trust to bring the right priorities to Congress.

"There are two words that matter most in this campaign. The first is priorities -- and Congress has them all wrong," Bonamici said. "At the same time of growing debt and people struggling to find work, Congress supports tax breaks for millionaires -- and we know who gets the bill: middle class families and seniors. This doesn't make sense. We can't afford it. It's not fair, and I'm running to get Washington's priorities straight."

Bonamici has demonstrated throughout her career that she has always fought for the right priorities. Before there was a mortgage crisis, Bonamici was taking on predatory lenders, and in the private sector she represented small business owners misled by large corporations. As a state legislator, she is known as a leading voice on consumer protection issues and for increasing access to capital for small businesses.

"The second word that matters is trust. Too many politicians say whatever it takes to get elected and quickly forget who they are representing," Bonamici said. "The real question is who can you trust to stick to the right priorities. If Oregonians look at what I've done, they will see what I will do. I've spent my entire career fighting for accountability, fairness and putting middle class families, consumers and businesses first."

Carol Butler, campaign manager for Bonamici, added, "Tonight we saw two candidates with very different priorities. Rob Cornilles refused to list any specific ways he cut the growing debt, he supports continuing tax breaks for the wealthy, he wholeheartedly endorsed corporate spending in politics, and he repeated an attack launched on the first day of the general election that The Oregonian found false. Rob has the wrong priorities and is willing to say anything to get elected."
