Today, Governor Patrick announced that Massachusetts received $77.6 million in federal funding to provide heating assistance to low income residents. This LIHEAP funding will be distributed to 22 regional Massachusetts agencies, including two in the 10th Congressional District.
"I, along with my colleagues in the state's delegation, have been fighting for this funding since the beginning of the year," said Rep. Bill Keating. "Just this week, we had a freak October snowstorm, and our friends and neighbors who rely on fuel and heating assistance were looking towards a very cold winter. This infusion of federal funds will help change that, but more support for this important program is needed. I vow to continue to fight for heating assistance even as some short-sighted members of Congress try to cut it."
LIHEAP is funded through the US Department of Health and Human Services and is administered in Massachusetts by 22 non-profit/government organizations. The two administering agencies in the 10th Congressional District and the funding amount they will receive are listed below.
South Shore Community Action Programs, Inc. $ 4,343,910
Quincy Community Action Programs, Inc. $ 1,457,370
