Landry Responds to Obama Drilling Proposal

Statement

Date: Nov. 8, 2011
Location: New Iberia, LA

Preparing for a town hall meeting with constituents from the district most impacted by the President's moratorium on drilling, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) issued the following statement regarding the Administration's 2012-2017 Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Plan announced today BY Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.:

"Today, the Administration released their proposed drilling plans for the next 5 years. And while it allows some parts of the Gulf of Mexico to be open until 2017, their proposal does not do enough to make America energy independent. I call on my constituents and the good people across the country to be vocal throughout the upcoming comment period. Demand larger portions of the OCS be opened for energy production. Demand new areas in Alaska, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean be explored. And demand the President holds his word on reducing our dependence on foreign oil by expediting the permitting process. In the meantime, I will continue to fight and work for the Senate to take up the bi-partisan energy bills passed in the House that would create over a million jobs, generate over a billion dollars, and put us on a real path to energy independence. Together, we can help put our neighbors back to work - because as we all know and the President seems to not understand, drilling equals jobs."
