Fiscal Responsibility: Reducing Taxes - Cutting Waste

* I believe we have to hold the line on taxes and cut wasteful spending. Finding the balance between providing quality services, without burdening families and businesses is critical.
* Keeping our fiscal house in order is not a Republican or Democratic idea... it's the right idea for Virginia.

Fiscal Responsibility: Experience in Efficiency

* As the Director of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, I was proud of the efficiency we achieved while cutting budgets. We should look for ways to replicate those results in other agencies.
* Eliminated $48 million in bureaucracy and administrative waste from the budget at the Department of Juvenile Justice while preserving the high standard of operations.
* Sponsored a study to reduce the size and cost of the State Juvenile Correction System. The study proposes moving residents to local modern facilities from an aging centralized facility saving the state millions. Improvements include but are not limited to; providing evidence based, best practice reintegration services that are closer to home, use community based resources and maintain public safety.
* As a Delegate, I was proud to be the chief co-sponsor of the Middle Class Tax Relief Act, which would have provided tax cuts for families in Fairfax County, eliminated the tax on food and lowered the tax burden on our small businesses so they can create more jobs.
* Supported legislation to create a whistleblower hotline for Government employees to report fraud and waste. The policy included protections from retaliation for employees and residents and required auditors to investigate authentic allegations of fraud, waste or abuse.

Fiscal Responsibility: Future Efficiency

* Virginia must continue to look for ways to cut administrative and bureaucratic waste in its agencies and projects.
* We must examine our budgets and cut duplicative and redundant programs.
* We must find innovative ways to streamline processes and integrate technology to update systems and increase efficiency.
