FUNDING
As Governor, Johnny DuPree will work with the Mississippi Legislature to ensure Mississippi's educational system is fully funded to give our teachers and children the best opportunity to excel.
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Learning begins early in life. We must prepare our children for their K-12 matriculation prior to reaching grade school. Under Johnny DuPree's administration, a uniform curriculum for day cares, faith-based pre-schools, and other learning institutions to prepare our children for grade school will be created.
SPECIALIZED EDUCATION COACHES
Sports teams have specialized coaches while our schools embrace a cookie-cutter approach. As Governor, Mayor DuPree will lead the effort to utilize school counselors and placing education coaches in our schools.
As an example, to tackle our literacy issues - Literacy Coaches will be dispatched to help our children learn to read; Coaches to make our students competitive in the world of science and math; and Graduation Coaches to work with our kids on the deficiencies that lead to a dropout rate that is just unacceptable.
PREPARING NEW TEACHERS
Under Johnny DuPree's watch, Mississippi teachers with have access to all available resources to educate our children. This will be accomplished through more practical experience for new teachers prior to entering a classroom.
New incoming teachers will complete a full year of student-teaching as part of their required studies instead of a single semester; they will be able to attend forums and workshops led by teachers for teachers.
COMMUNITY APPROACH
It takes a community to raise a child. As Governor, Johnny DuPree will lead the effort to help facilitate active participation of all community institutions to benefit our children. From youth centers to libraries; from the Boys and Girls Club to places of worship; it takes all of us working together--parents, schools, government, the business community, and non-profit organizations--to make our children first!
