Statement

Your hard work is paying off. Because of your effort, we received the most votes of any Democrat for Governor.In fact, we received more votes for governor than any other candidate -- Republican or Democrat.

That is a great honor!

But our job is not done. As we prepare for the Aug. 23 runoff, I need you more than ever.

There were 400,000 Democrats who came out and voted yesterday, and we plan to call every one of them and ask them for their vote. If you can help, then we need you to register to volunteer today!

I also need you to go to my website right now and make a contribution of at least $20. We were overwhelmed by the number of people who gave to us for the primary, enabling us to run a strong grassroots campaign that gave us the lead. We need to be able to continue this effort.

I firmly believe that we are ahead because our message is resonating with the voters.

We have put forth a concrete plan to restructure education in Mississippi. We have illustrated our ability to create jobs in tough times and shown how we can do the same thing for all of Mississippi. And we have said that we will fight for fair taxes and affordable health care for everyone, not just the privileged few.

So let's get back to work. We have 19 days until Election Day, and I know that together, we can be victorious!
