Van Hollen Statement on CBO Long-Term Budget Outlook

Statement

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office's long-term budget outlook, released today:

"The CBO long-term budget outlook underscores the urgency and importance of getting the economy moving and putting our fiscal house in order. The question is not whether we should reduce the deficit but how.

"We must put together a plan that reduces the debt in a predictable and balanced way. The House Republican budget takes a one-sided approach that ends the Medicare guarantee and slashes our investment in education, but provides tax breaks for special interests and cuts the tax rates for the super wealthy. That is the wrong direction for America.

"We need a balanced plan, along the lines of what President Obama outlined in his most recent proposal, that reflects America's priorities."
