Van Hollen Supports Release from Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement applauding President Obama's decision to release 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, an action that Congressman Van Hollen first called for in May:

"I strongly support the President's decision to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Supply disruptions in the Middle East have allowed speculators to drive up the price of oil -- a move that has hurt our economic recovery and caused all Americans to feel the pain of increased costs, while making financial speculators on Wall Street even wealthier. This targeted release of oil will help wring speculative excess out of the oil markets, bring down costs, and provide important relief to families across our country."
