Says Americans can't afford more war spending
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree voted in favor of two resolutions today to end U.S. military action in Libya.
"Instead of spending billions of dollars overseas on wars that don't make America any safer, we should be putting our energy and money into creating jobs and reducing our deficit," Pingree said.
Pingree has been a vocal opponent of ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, citing the cost of both wars and the thousands of Americans who have been killed or injured. She says this morning's jobs report is one example of why the focus should be on problems here at home and not further military involvement overseas.
"All you have to do is take one look at the unemployment figures that came out this morning to be reminded that we have big problems here at home that we should be focusing on. And the debate this week about raising the debt ceiling is really a debate about paying for the two wars we've been fighting over the last ten years. Now is not the time to be engaged on yet another front."
