On Monday, March 28, 2011, Congresswoman Laura Richardson joined U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and AEG President and CEO Timothy J. Leiweke at the STAPLES Center in support an expansion of the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign to public venues owned by or affiliated with AEG Facilities.
"When it comes to our homeland security, it is the responsibility of every citizen to be an active part of the process by reporting any suspicious activity or threats they may identify," said Congresswoman Richardson. "The "If You See Something, Say Something' campaign helps to keep our communities safe. By expanding this program to AEG venues, including the Home Depot Center in Carson, we can improve safety at large gatherings across the country."
The "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign was originally implemented by New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority and is now licensed to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for a nationwide public awareness effort that includes both print and digital materials. The campaign encourages average citizens to identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to the proper transportation and law enforcement authorities.
The new partnership launched between DHS and AEG represents an effort to increase security at stadiums, arenas, theatres, clubs, convention centers and other public venues. In the 37th District, this expansion applies to the Home Depot Center, home of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA. Located in Carson and designated as an "Official U.S. Olympic Training Site," The Home Depot Center is the nation's most complete training facility for Olympic, amateur and professional athletes.
In addition to the Home Depot Center and the STAPLES Center, AEG properties implementing the campaign in the greater Los Angeles area include Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE, Club Nokia, El Rey Theatre and L.A. LIVE.
