Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) today issued the following statement regarding his vote to pass a three-week continuing resolution (CR) with $6 billion in spending cuts to avoid a shutdown of the federal government at midnight, March 18:
"I am proud to vote for real cuts to federal spending totaling $6 billion, and there is much more to be done. I do not want to shut down the government. We need to end the cycle of short-term continuing resolutions, so it is important that our friends in the Senate come to an agreement on a serious long-term solution like H.R. 1 passed by the House in February. At some point we have to put the CR process behind us so we can work on the FY2012 budget and save Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security."
H. J. Res. 48, the short-term continuing resolution, was sponsored by Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY). It passed by a vote of 271-158.
