Wicker Resolution to Cut Senate Budgets Passes

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today praised passage of a resolution he authored calling on Senators to cut their office budgets by at least five percent in 2011. Wicker said this was a first step and urged that this money be used to reduce the federal deficit.

"I am glad the Senate agreed to my resolution, but we have to continue making meaningful reductions to federal spending," said Wicker. "If we are going to solve our fiscal problems, we must start leading by example. At a time when American families are making tough choices and tightening their belts, the Senate should make the difficult decisions that are necessary."

Wicker's bi-partisan resolution was adopted unanimously. Senators Barrasso, Brown (MA), Coats, Chambliss, Corker, Cornyn, Enzi, Inhofe, Isakson, Johanns, Portman, Thune, Manchin, and Merkley co-sponsored the Wicker resolution. The decrease could save more than $20 million dollars in 2011 and is similar to a move made by the House of Representatives in January.
