Griffin: Up to Senate to Avoid Shutdown

Press Release

Date: March 1, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Tim Griffin (R-AR) today issued the following statement regarding his vote to pass a two-week continuing resolution with $4 billion in spending cuts to avoid a shutdown of the federal government at midnight, March 4:

"My goal is to cut spending and reduce the size of government, not shut it down. I am proud to vote to keep the government operating while also cutting its spending. It is now up to our friends in the Senate to avoid a government shutdown by passing this short-term continuing resolution and eventually passing a long-term CR that includes significant spending cuts so we can reestablish our credibility with the American people."

H. J. Res. 44, the short-term continuing resolution, was sponsored by Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY). It passed by a vote of 335-91.
