As American families face financial challenges and struggle to balance their checkbooks, the federal government should be doing the same. Unfortunately, in recent years, federal spending has continued to grow at an unsustainable rate. Now, instead of reigning in unnecessary and wasteful spending, Congress is looking to increase taxes to force taxpayers to finance reckless federal fiscal policies. Much of the economic turmoil gripping our nation today has resulted from people and governments spending beyond their means.
The trend in Washington is now to bailout those who acted irresponsibly by stripping the earnings and depleting the savings of those who showed restraint and prudence in managing their finances. Now is the time to stop this trend. America needs leaders who abide by principles of sound fiscal management, not those who rush legislation that excuses waste and exposes taxpayers to fraud and abuse. As a strong fiscal conservative, I will continue to oppose unnecessary federal spending and higher taxes.
On January 1, 2011, Democrats will drop a $3.8 trillion tax increase on American taxpayers and small businesses.
