Issue Position

I am, and always have been, pro-life. Life is precious and deserves our respect and protection. During my time in Congress, I have used my voice and vote to further the cause of life and defend the unborn.

I believe that life begins at conception and all human life is sacred. I am a sponsor of legislation that declares these beliefs and would ensure that life is protected:

* H.R. 227, the Sanctity of Human Life Act
* H.R. 881, the Right to Life Act

I support parental notification and am a sponsor of legislation that would require parents be notified if their daughter seeks an abortion. I also support legislation to prohibit minors from being transported across state lines to obtain an abortion:

* H.R. 2061, the Parental Notification and Intervention Act
* H.R. 634, the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act

No taxpayer money should ever be used to pay for an abortion. I have consistently voted to protect the pro-life Mexico City Policy and oppose public funding of abortion--whether here in the U.S. or overseas. I support legislation that would prohibit tax dollars from being used to perform or promote abortions:

During the debate on President Obama's health care reform, I strongly supported the Stupak-Pitts Amendment and fought for its inclusion in the final bill. I am a sponsor of legislation that would prevent taxpayer money from being used to cover abortions in federally-funded health care coverage:
